Working safely

In the technology room you work safely with the right protection, tidiness and attention. Pictograms use shape and colour to say what you must do, what is not allowed and where danger is.

Year 5 to the first stage of secondary schoolAges 10 to 14Draft: Not yet checked by a technology teacher.

Why

Why does a joiner put on safety glasses, even after sawing a thousand times?

An accident happens just when you think it cannot. A splinter flies into your eye faster than you can blink. Putting on glasses takes one second, but an injured eye sometimes never heals.

That is why there are pictograms in every technology room, every workshop and on every building site. Without words they say what you must do, what is not allowed and where there is danger. That way everyone understands them, whatever language they speak.
